Making Money with Hubpages: My Hubpages Earnings

Updated on November 18, 2014

Hubpages is a site similar to Squidoo or Wizzzley in that you make money by creating webpages which are called hubs--the page you are looking at right here is a Hubpages "hub." Hubpages allows you to use modules to create and enhance your hubs. You can make money creating hubs for Hubpages in five ways: the Hubpages Ad Program, Google Adsense, Amazon Assocites, the eBay Partner Network, and by referring new members to Hubpages. Hubpages can also be a good place to promote some affiliate products and programs for extra income, although they are very strict regarding what type of outbound links may be used and limits to the number of outbound links on a hub.

This hub will give you a bit of an introduction into what Hubpages is and show you my experience with Hubpages and how much money I've made creating hubs.

How to Make Money with Hubpages

Hubpage Ad Program
The first way to make money with Hubpages is with their own Ad Program. Hubpages shares a percentage of the ad revenue generated from their premium ad partners with their writers. This way, "hubbers" (Hubpages writers) can share in revenue earned from high quality ads (i.e., higher paying ads) that they would not be able to share in by publishing on their own blogs or other smaller sites. Hubpages and each individual hubber share in the revenue generated from these premium ads on each individual hub 60-40 with 60% of the earnings going to the writer and the other 40% to Hubpages. This is the breakdown/share of all revenue on Hubpages.

Google Adsense
Hubbers can also make money on Hubpages with Google Adsense. When you sign up for Hubpges, you give them your Google Adsense ID which will be inserted into Adsense ads on your hubs for 60% of their impressions.

Amazon Associates Program
Amazon Associates can make money by selling Amazon products on Hubpages. Hubpages has Amazon Associates modules that you can insert into your hubs (1 Amazon product per 50 words) and your Amazon affiliate ID will be put into the modules fir 60% of the impressions on your hubs.

eBay Partner Network
Hubpages also has an eBay module and if you are a member of the eBay Partner Network, Hubpages will share revenue earned from eBay commission by inserting your affiliate ID into the eBay module just as they do with the Amazon module.

Referrals
Another way to make money with Hubpages is by referring new writers, you will earn 10% of the advertising impressions to Hubpages Ad Program, Google Adsense, Amazon Associates and eBay Partner Network from your referrals' hubs. This percentage does not come from your referrals' percentage of impressions, it is instead rather taken from Hubpages' share.

If you don't already write for Hubpages and are looking to make money online by writing articles and creating webpages, you can sign up through the link below. (It's a referral link, so I will earn a percentage of what you make as addressed above. Don't worry! I won't get anything that YOU earn or are entitled to, it comes out of Hubpages share, not yours!)

Total Hubpages Earnings: $104.99

My Hubpages Experience

I started out writing very few articles for Hubpages and did start trying to expand my library of hubs until the Summer of 2013; therefore, you will see that my earnings on Hubpages was very slow to start out. In fact, before October, 2011, I only had 3 hubs on Hubpages and by the end of 2011, I only had 7 hubs published on Hubpages. Hubpages was not been my priority when it came to writing articles and creating webpages and I instead focused on sites like InfoBarrel and Squidoo. However, after Squidoo made several changes in mid-2013, I decided to focus more of my efforts on Hubpages and migrate many of my lenses from Squidoo to Hubpages.

Although I stated above that with Hubpages you can earn from their Ad Program, Adsense, Amazon Associates, and eBay Partner Network, it is a pain to keep track of Amazon Associates & eBay Partner Network (which I only signed up for in July, 2013 anyway), this Hub will only show my Hubpages earnings from their Ad Program and Adsense. It should also be noted that the Hubpages Ad Program was not always a part of Hubpages and I only signed up for it in July, 2011.

As I continue to expand my Hubpages library, my current goal is to get to a point where every month I make at least $50 through the Ad Program so that I can get paid monthly. (The minimum to get paid by Hubpages is $50.) Of course, I say this right now where I have not even reached payout and am averaging about $5.00 per month. I used to make too much money through other sources such as Squidoo (about $150-$200 per month) or Examiner (as much as $700 per month) to focus on Hubpages or any of the other sites I write for.

2011 Earnings: $2.67

In 2011, I obviously had very low earnings on Hubpages. I had only a few Hubs which were not optimized nor were they promoted. Therefore, I didn't have high Adsense earnings. The Ad Program was introduced during 2011; therefore, it was not applicable during the entire year.

My earnings for 2012 increased from 2011 with a few more hubs and better utilization of the Ad Program. I was still only bringing in a few dollars per month and was not consistent.

2013 Earnings: $32.12

My goal for 2013 was to try to write more hubs and promote them better. I learned that according to some other hubbers it takes about 200 views to get $1 on the Ad Program. My goal for 2013 was to get at least 200 views per day in order to make $1 a day on Hubpages. At the end of 2012, I was only getting about 10-15 views per day, so I had a long way to go for 2013 and likely will not make it I wasn't too diligent in my goal and towards the end of the year changed my goal to make $50 from Ad Program by the end of November, 2013 so that I will be paid before the end of the year. I met that goal and received my first payout from Hubpages on 12/28/2013 and was paid $50.21.

2014 Earnings: $48.25

I didn't really set any goals for myself for 2014 due to failing to meet my prior goals. I'd say my simple non-goals for 2014 were to continue to increase my earnings and reach payout again during the year.
